Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Sharon Gomez reminds us that God loves our offering of worship.
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks” (John 4:23 NIV).
Singing along with worship music almost always draws my Spirit close to God. However, because of the loud acoustics in the worship center, my terrible singing voice isn’t heard by anyone. Not only am I grateful for those acoustics, I’m also thankful that God accepts worship in more ways than just singing; otherwise, my salvation could be at risk!
John 4:23 documents the first time Jesus revealed His identity to an outcast woman at the well in Samaria, who seemed to feel slighted that only the Jews could properly worship in the Temple. His words assured her that the time had come when everyone could worship in the Spirit. This meant unfiltered communication with God, anytime, anywhere.
Before Jesus, Old Testament followers had to obey over 600 laws strictly. Thankfully, our Father loves us so much that He gave us a way to be in relationship with Him through His Son instead of through the laws.
We are free to express gratitude, confess our sins, or cry out in sorrow, whether in church or in the privacy of our bedroom.
The last phrase of the verse gives us another promise; God seeks those types of worshippers. Not only has God recognized that we needed a fail-safe way to access Him (Jesus), He seeks us out, draws us near through heart tugs, wise people, and even difficult circumstances.
This pursuit even transcends our feelings. There have been many times in church when I couldn’t bring myself to worship joyfully. But because of grace, I know I can praise God while I’m driving in the car, mopping the floor, or while preparing a late-night snack!
Take a moment today to say thank you for the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank our Father for not only accepting our worship with unconditional love but for pursuing us with relentless passion.
