Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Kristy Fitzgerald shares about trusting God's timing and His love for you.

“Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day” Psalm 25:4-5 (NKJV).

Is there anyone you know who enjoys waiting? I didn’t think so. I personally haven’t met anyone who does. As a society, we can be very impatient. We work hard to make our lives as expeditious as possible. We want something and we want it now. Waiting seems like a waste of our precious time.

Often, we find ourselves waiting on God to answer prayer. We’re hurting, angry, frustrated with a situation and we want out of it now! The pain feels like more than we can bear. We plead for an answer from God, but the answer doesn’t come. That’s when we face the reality God’s timing is not the same as ours. His answer for now seems to be…WAIT!

Currently, I am in a season of waiting. After years of being an independent, capable woman, I find myself broken, dependent and searching for answers. It’s been six long years of praying and begging God to heal me. His answer seems to be, “Not right now; I have something more important to do.”

You see, what God has done in me and for me in this season is more powerful than the healing I’ve asked for. He has shown me how destructive my pride and arrogance have been. He’s taught me endurance and the beauty of being broken. He’s led me down paths only this illness could reveal. I have learned in my weakest moments, God's strength and grace are all I need.

Recently, a dear friend who is in a similar situation said to me, “I asked God not to heal me until He had completed His work in me because the cost has been so great.”

Waiting can seem excruciating at times, but as His child, He is showing you, teaching you, and leading you in ways that are for your good. Trust His love for you.
