Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotional is written by Angela Vandagriff.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV).

There are times in my life when sin casts a long shadow of doubt. Many of us may have wrestled with the question, “Am I really saved?”  In the middle of my sin, I struggle with who I am.

This question often surfaces in hard seasons, when guilt weighs heavy and comparison creeps in. Looking at other believers who seem to prosper with ease, it can appear as though their lives are marked by blessing while mine is marked by failure. In those moments, shame whispers that perhaps I am not good enough for God’s favor, and the enemy uses guilt to chain me in fear rather than freedom.

Today's Scripture points us to a greater truth: God’s grace is sufficient. The apostle Paul learned this when he pleaded for his own weakness to be taken away, and Christ reminded him that divine strength is revealed most clearly in human weakness. Our struggles with sin and our battles with doubt are not evidence that God has abandoned us; they are opportunities for us to experience the richness of His grace more fully.

If we never felt the sting of brokenness, we might never treasure the gift of forgiveness. If we never faced the weight of our insufficiency, we might never know the depth of God’s sufficiency. Grace is not a reward for the perfect but a lifeline for the weak.

God does not call us to present flawless lives before Him. Instead, He invites us into a relationship rooted in trust and humility. Perfection is unattainable in our own strength, but Christ has already secured righteousness on our behalf. To walk in grace is to step out of chains and into freedom—freedom to trust that even in weakness, failure, seasons of doubt, and seasons of sin, His love holds firm. His grace is enough.
