Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
November 12, 2025
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Tara Thompson.
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4 KJV).
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to worship when your heart feels heavy? It almost feels impossible to lift your voice in praise or pray to our Father when the weight of life presses you down. And yet, that’s exactly where true worship is born—in those times when we feel like we have nothing left to give, but we lift our hearts anyway.
It was one of those days. It felt like my family and I were being attacked on every side. Worship was the last thing on my mind. In fact, I didn’t even feel like lifting my Bible, let alone lifting my voice. But then, in this quiet voice, the lyrics to the hymn “I Surrender All” were whispered across my soul. I started repeating the lyrics, quietly, with my hands lifted—not because I felt like it, but because I knew He was still worthy.
Philippians 4:4 reminds us to rejoice in the Lord always—not only when life is good, but also when it hurts. Worship isn’t tied to our feelings; it’s anchored in God’s unchanging faithfulness. When we surrender all, even in the valley, we find that worship reorients our perspective and draws us back into the joy of His presence.
When my eyes turned back to the One who holds all things together, my heart shifted. Worship became less about me and more about Him. It was my way of saying, “Lord, I don’t have control, but You do. I don’t have strength, but You are my strength.” And in that surrender, light began to break through the darkness of that day.
What would shift in your perspective if you saw worship not as a response to blessings, but as an act of surrender in the midst of your struggle?
