Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Kristy Fitzgerald reminds us that fixing our minds on Jesus brings peace.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You” Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV).

One of the most fascinating stories in the Bible is when Jesus was with His disciples in a boat, crossing over a lake. Jesus was asleep in the stern of the boat. Suddenly, there was a violent storm, and the boat began taking on water. Jesus awoke to the disciples crying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” (Luke 8:24 NKJV). He stood up, spoke to the storm, and there was calm. Then He asked His disciples a profound question, “Where is your faith?”

My home state of Oklahoma is known for violent, unpredictable storms that can produce tornadoes. The most frightening of these storms are those that are unexpected. If you aren’t prepared, you could find yourself in tremendous danger.

Storms can occur unexpectedly in our lives. In Isaiah 26:3, we are given direction on how to be prepared and allow God's perfect peace to control our lives during times of turmoil. Looking at the scripture in reverse, we see what is required for God’s perfect peace.

“Because he trusts in You.” To experience God's peace, we must trust in Him. Often, we trust in things or people who are fallible and in situations that fail us, resulting in a life built on a shaky foundation.

“Whose mind is stayed on You.” When our thoughts are fixed on the storm around us, it consumes us. Peace comes into our lives when our whole mind, purpose, and very being is fixed on Jesus.

“You will keep him in perfect peace”. What a promise! In Hebrew, the word for perfect and peace is the same word, shalom. “Shalom shalom” describes a complete peace. One that is not shaken by the storms we encounter.

If you find yourself today in a storm, keep your mind fixed on Him and trust Him because He loves you. Then you can experience God’s perfect peace.
