Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Andi Benson. She helps us understand what it is to wait on the Lord.
“I waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined to me and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1 ESV).
Waiting is woven into the fabric of our lives, sometimes an unwelcome thread, sometimes a silent teacher. Psalm 40:1 reminds us that God not only hears our cries but also honors our patience as we wait. This kind of waiting is neither passive nor hopeless. Instead, it is an active trust, leaning toward God's faithfulness, even when the outcome is unseen.
Consider Sarah, wife of Abraham, whose longing for a child shaped her faith. God had promised that she would bear a son, yet years slipped by as she remained barren. Sarah’s waiting was not without struggle or doubt, but ultimately, she witnessed the fulfillment of God’s promise. Her story is a testament to the tender, surprising ways God works in the waiting.
Like Sarah, I have found myself in different seasons where answers seem distant and hope was wavering. I have waited for healing, direction, reconciliation, and joy to be restored throughout my journey. During nearly ten years of praying for a child, I faced repeated disappointment, miscarriages, and a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy. When my hope was fading, I felt a clear message one Sunday during worship that God would bless me with a son. I felt immediate peace and knew I could trust God’s faithfulness. Ultimately, that promise was fulfilled—with not only one son but two.
These moments of “waiting well” mean we anchor our hearts to God's promises. It means we worship while we wait, pray in our uncertainty, and trust that God is working behind the scenes for our good.
During seasons of waiting, let us wait well with great expectation in all God can do. The God who honored Sarah’s faith is still fulfilling promises today. As we wait, may our patience become a song of trust, echoing the assurance that God is never late and always loving.
