Today, Susan Hales shares about God’s miraculous power in her health journey.

“For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love” (Lamentations 3:31–32 NLT).

Three days off and time to celebrate! While getting ready for the fun holiday weekend, I fell to my knees when an excruciating pain shot through my right side. I massaged my side to find the physical cause of the pain.

I found it—a quarter-sized lump in my right breast. My mind whirled out of control. “No, this is not possible! My mammogram just a few months ago was perfectly normal.”

My attempts to pray for comfort and peace felt empty. Why would God listen to me, anyway? Despite my religious upbringing, it had been a long time since I thought about God. I presumed He abandoned me since I had abandoned Him.

The doctor uttered the words you never want to hear, “You have cancer.” Appointments, cancer treatments, and their side effects consumed my schedule and life.

Despite many tests and scans, the doctors never discovered the cause of the pain in my side. Thankfully, early detection gave me an excellent prognosis.

During a chemotherapy treatment, I realized it was a miracle when God sent the pain to my side to get my attention. Because I discovered the lump in my breast, I avoided advanced disease or even death.

I went to church for the first time in many years to thank God for saving me from the possible bad outcomes of cancer. It dawned on me that God's unfailing love, even after I rejected Him, was my second miracle. He never abandoned me, even though I abandoned Him. As our key verse states, “For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever.”

Even if you feel abandoned by God for what you’ve done, know that you're already forgiven. God sent his Son Jesus to die to reconcile you with Him. God does not abandon us. His unfailing love endures throughout eternity.
