Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Liz’a Bizwell.

“As for me, I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me… For though I fall, I will rise again. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light” (Micah 7:7-8 NLT).

When I think about God choosing me, I have to giggle. I do not fit the image of what a “Christian” is supposed to be. I’m not a people person, I’m not patient, and I’m not gentle. My attempts to be what God wanted me to be were discouraging until I realized God wasn’t asking me to be perfect, just present and trusting.

When I stopped trying so hard and accepted that God had created me to be unique, I began to notice that God was providing everything I was not.

The people around me started noticing, too. I was not stressed, overwhelmed, or miserable. I had become peaceful, joyful, and even patient.

Waiting for God to reveal His plans for us, or in my case for transformation, is not easy. To stay hopeful, I had to focus on God rather than myself. I had to be intentional about my perspective, and find ways to keep from dwelling on what I didn’t yet have.

Here are some practical steps I took to help me stay God-centered and can help you too:

Start a bible study with a friend

Join a book club

Start a new hobby like painting or gardening

Volunteer your time or money to help someone else

When we focus on God and His mission, things in our life just come together. God provides everything we need to do what He has called us to do.

Micah 7:7-8 is a truth we can lean into when we struggle to understand God‘s ways. We can wait confidently and without fear because God is our light in the dark places, and only He can turn the misery of waiting into hopeful peace. Invite Him into the dark places of your life today.
