Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

May 6, 2025    Liz'a Biswell

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Liz’a Biswell.

“Because He never lost sight of where He was headed… He could put up with anything along the way, the cross, shame, whatever. And now He’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God” (Hebrews 12:2 TMR).

I prayed over my husband for thirteen years, pleading with God to soften his heart. The thought of him spending eternity separated from God deeply tormented me. There were several moments of discouragement, yet I stayed focused and refused to give up.

One morning, I was shocked to see him up and preparing for church. The joy I felt knowing a soul was on the path to The Kingdom changed my life and revealed my mission.

It can be challenging to love the lost while maintaining our joy. However, Hebrews 12:2 offers a profound example in Jesus: “Because He never lost sight of where He was headed… He could put up with anything...” His joy came from knowing the outcome of His mission. Jesus did it with joy and triumph.

My husband’s transformation was not a result of lectures, nagging, or guilt. I tried all of those approaches without success. It was a result of prayer and the influence of people who live, speak, and walk in joy—just like Jesus—that drew him to the house of God. Jesus equips us with what we need to succeed. Our task is simple: to obey and follow.

The joy God offers cannot be found in this world. It is in Jesus, our ultimate example, who journeys with us and perfects us as we go. He never gives up or abandons us when challenges arise. We shouldn’t give up on Him or the people He has called us to love.

When we focus on the prize, we can enjoy the process. “…And now He’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.” Imagine yourself sitting next to Jesus alongside God our Father. Let that vision of joy sustain you through every moment.
