Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Sharon Gomez explores the truth that our salvation rests in Jesus, our Savior.
"Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood" (Hebrews 12:3-4 NIV).
I don't know about you, but this verse hits my heart like a ton of bricks. I feel an instant sense of humility, followed by a sting of shame. Jesus endured suffering and practiced forgiveness of others to an extent that I can barely comprehend. Yet, here I am, irritated when my local Starbucks runs out of my favorite cold foam topping, yikes!
As believers, our struggle with sin is real. It’s real present, real hard, and real trying. We are faced with difficult circumstances, and our struggles come in long seasons of time or in daily moments. These struggles, big or small, can be the very thing that leads us to sin.
Thankfully, our salvation lies in our Savior and not in our ability to resist sin. At the heart of our Christian faith is Jesus, God in the flesh, who chose us, who taught us, and ultimately died for us. Yet He rose for us and poured His spirit upon us. Now it is up to us to stay in a relationship with Him.
Today's verse tells us that because of His sacrifice, we don't have to shed our own blood to resist sin. We need to believe in His sacrifice for us wholeheartedly. But when we lose our struggle with sin, we can be assured that His love for us will never end. Ephesians 3:12 (NIV) tells us, "In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”
Do you feel discouraged today because you've lost some battles with sin? Let's not be overshadowed by our shame but choose to accept the warmth of grace. It just takes a sincere confession, a heartfelt apology, and a willingness to forgive yourself enough to accept His grace to move forward and never look back.
