Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Kristy Fitzgerald explores the only powerful solution to the wrestle with sin; the grace freely offered through Jesus.
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” (Romans 6:1-2 NKJV)
The other day I had an interesting conversation with a family member about his friend. This friend had been raised in church. He knew the hymns and memorized the scriptures, but this person had a secret. He found himself attracted to a lifestyle he knew was sinful. He said he had prayed about his sinful desires but when God didn’t answer like he felt God should, he surrendered himself to the temptation and accepted this would be his life.
What a sad story and yet there are many people who find themselves in this situation. Those who wrestle with sins that become shackles weighing them down. Some make excuses and say things like, “God knows my heart” and “This is just the way I am.” I know this because I’ve been there and it’s a miserable place to be.
What we find ourselves doing is wrestling with “sins” which are really symptoms of one thing, the desire to have our own way. We find ourselves holding onto attitudes, desires and habits that, if not surrendered, can harm our relationship with Him.
Paul reminded the Roman church they had been saved by the grace of God and had died to sin, and it should not control them anymore. The same truth applies to us.
If you have found yourself battling with sin, I have good news. There is a way to have victory over sin and break its hold on your life. It is by daily seeking God in prayer, completely surrendering everything to Him, and trusting Him in the process.
When we begin this journey with Jesus, the Holy Spirit becomes a guide, showing us what God’s desire is for our lives. He never condemns us, but with loving conviction, He directs us in the right path. That’s how much you are loved by Him.
