Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Susan Hales explores the importance of practicing wellness as worship.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1 NIV).
I spent most of my life on the diet merry-go-round, trying to lose weight, gain confidence, and feel attractive. You name it; I tried it—Weight Watchers, SlimFast, low carb, low fat, and more. But I discovered a better way to live—practicing wellness as worship.
So, why should you consider taking care of your body as worship?
First, God created you exactly how He wanted you to be. He chose your physical characteristics, natural talents, and unique personality. Therefore, we worship God by taking care of our bodies because He created our bodies for His purposes.
Next, Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross to redeem you through His precious blood. You are holy because He is holy.
Finally, the Holy Spirit lives in you. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, God dwelling within us. That's why we should treat our bodies with the respect they deserve.
For those who believe in Christ, God sets us apart to fulfill His purpose, to serve Him, and to share the Gospel. We present our bodies as living sacrifices to serve Him. Staying healthy and strong by taking care of our bodies allows us to have the stamina to do this for as long as possible.
Instead of dieting and exercising to lose weight, look more attractive or wear a smaller size—consider wellness as worship according to God’s Word.
Wellness is a journey, but you have to take the first step. How will you practice wellness as worship starting today?
