Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Kristy Fitzgerald shares about our gentle Savior who longs to draw us into His arms.

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,’ the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper” 1 Kings 19:11-12 (NLT).

I was at the end of my rope! Bills were due and money was scarce. My daughter was sick again, and I had been advised at work that one more absence could mean dismissal. The overwhelming wave of anxiety and despair covered me, and I found it difficult to see a way out.

It was late at night, and as I lay in bed, the onslaught of fear and worry engulfed me. I tried to sleep, but my mind wouldn’t stop. Climbing out of bed, I crumbled to the floor sobbing. I cried out to God, begging for help and peace.

As I lay there completely drained, my eyes closed from exhaustion. Suddenly, I felt a gentle arm go around me. I lay my head over, and there was a shoulder to rest on. I sat there for quite a while, soaking in the tranquility of that moment. knowing I was experiencing the gentle love and presence of my Jesus.

I wonder if that’s what an exhausted and fearful Elijah felt when he heard that calm voice on the mountain. The wind, the fire, and the earthquake were powerful, but God wasn’t in them. No, for a weary Elijah, God manifested Himself in a gentle whisper.

Perhaps you’ve found yourself in a similar place, exhausted, hopeless, and all alone. Let me remind you today that there is a Gentle Savior who loves you and longs to restore your soul. Will you let Him hold you today?
