Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Sep 1, 2025    Kate Dreston

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Kate Dreston.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Col 3:23-24 NKJV).

Have you ever experienced a time of waiting in your life? Maybe the days passed slowly, and it felt like there wasn’t much to look forward to.

Joseph went through a discouraging and difficult wait. Being confined in prison for a crime he did not commit, His life came to a sudden halt. Every day began and ended in a cruel, dark place.

He was no stranger to hard and challenging circumstances. Fueled by their hatred for Joseph, his brothers tried to kill him by throwing him into a cistern. At the last minute, they changed their minds and decided to sell him. Eventually, he became a slave for one of Pharaoh’s officials. He landed in prison after the official’s wife falsely accused him of attempted rape.

In spite of the depressing circumstances, Joseph remained faithful to do his best with whatever task he was given. He was trustworthy, honest, and hardworking. As a result, the prison warden assigned him significant responsibilities.

He could have sulked and done the bare minimum, but that wasn’t his character. He

concentrated on doing his work as if he were working for the Lord and not men.

While Joseph waited for his life circumstances to change, he went about his assigned duties with integrity and purpose. Finding a way to persevere, He turned his negative situations into positive outcomes.

Are you in a period of waiting? Are you having trouble finding purpose while you’re paused? I encourage you to follow Joseph’s example of waiting well. Do the next thing, work unto the Lord, and as Colossians 3:23-24 instructs, do your best as if you are working for the Lord, not for men.
