Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Jun 2, 2025    Kate Dreston

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Kate Dreston.

"He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep" (Psalm 121:3-4 NKJV).

Our world is full of headlines speaking of war, famine, murder, and natural disasters. We are bombarded with news all day, every day. Very little of it is good. These challenging times can steal our peace.

Sometimes, I struggle with having a calm and contented feeling within my heart. Having constant access to every news story around the world can be overwhelming. I want to be informed of what is happening; however, with all the information comes turmoil.

The author of Psalm 121 speaks of God's watchful eye on Israel. God does not need rest or sleep. He currently has His eye on all of us at the same time. There is nothing hidden from Him. There is comfort in knowing the Lord is always aware of what is happening in the entire universe.

Not only is He aware, but He is in control.

When a child falls asleep in their mother's loving arms, they feel safe, secure, and loved. They have peace, and sleep comes easily. We, too, can rest in the arms of our loving Father. We can trust all His ways.

If you are finding yourself in need of peace, turn your focus to the truth. Find comfort and peace in:

God's sovereignty (His ability to be in control of all things)

God's omnipotence (He is all-powerful)

God's omnipresence (He is all-present)

God's omniscience (He is all-knowing)

When our eyes are focused on Jesus, our anxiety fades away. If you are nervous, worried, troubled, or fearful, take a moment to pray. God never sleeps. He will help you find a peace that transcends all understanding.

Reflect on God's character of sovereignty, omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, and allow peace to overcome you.
