Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Sharon Gomez shares about seeking God in seasons of waiting.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14 ESV).

Waiting well is a constant challenge for me, and nothing tests my patience more than driving through my city. One moment, I’m happily worshipping along with the songs on the radio, feeling filled with the Holy Spirit. Then, in an instant, I get cut off by another driver. Just like that, I’m angry at this stranger who has “wronged me.”

But it’s not just the minor transgressions that derail me; it’s the wonder if I am following God’s will for my life. I’ve been divorced for over six years, and I still have no clue what my future holds.

I think I am waiting on God’s plan for me, but sometimes I wonder if I’m just too afraid to move forward. I’m content in my current season, and taking steps to change my circumstances would require me to step out of my comfort zone. This is the struggle I often bring to God.

Today’s verse focuses on waiting on the Lord without fear. We are told to “be strong” and “let your heart take courage.”  Waiting in this way is not passive but intentional by leaning into the unknown while honing in on our “Holy Discernment.”

Strengthening our relationship with God is the best way to strengthen our discernment. A friend once explained to me that recognizing God’s voice is similar to recognizing the voices of our children, parents, relatives, or close friends without seeing their faces; it is the same with God.  The more we know Him, the more we will recognize His voice guiding us.

Are you currently in a season of waiting?  Seek God's voice and allow yourself to be strong and courageous in heart while you wait.  God is always working behind the scenes of our lives and for our good.
