Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
September 24, 2025
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Angela Vandagriff.
“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV).
Waiting well…not my best quality! When I am in the middle of a hard battle, I want the Lord to swoop in and immediately defeat my enemy. I want to use Him like a genie in a bottle! But that isn't real life, and that's not who God is!
Recalling brutal battles conjures up the strong emotions that consumed me. My cries for immediate help and feelings of abandonment left me exhausted. I couldn't see the Lord working in my life. Did I wait well? No! I was broken, my mind was numb, and I felt defeated! Complaining and whining were my responses.
Today's verse gets to the point: “Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” The phrase “those who wait" refers to those who trust in God. Patiently seeking Him and relying on His power can offer a new energy source and resilience. We are not removed from the battle, but God promises we will be renewed in it.
Mounting up with wings like an eagle is a perfect picture of how we are to patiently trust in God to provide us with new strength, allowing us to persevere through the storm. Eagles are known for their powerful ability to soar high above a storm with endurance and persistence. Then we are urged to “run and not be weary, walk and not be faint.” Don't give up when life is hard!
When your mind shuts down and you feel abandoned, I encourage you to find the quietest place you can, close your eyes, and visualize the Holy Spirit holding you. Breathe in deeply and exhale slowly. Now picture the Holy Spirit lifting you above the chaos. Settle in that space for as long as possible, allowing your body to rest at peace. Mount up with eagle's wings, trust in the Lord, and be renewed!
