Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Sharon Gomez reminds us that God’s peace is a gift that the world cannot give.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27 NLT).

Have you ever received a gift so fitting and thoughtful that your heart overflowed with gratitude? Have you ever received a gift that seemed to be a replacement for an act of love or had an expectation attached to it?

Our perception of gifts can significantly depend on the giver, the occasion, and the gift itself. When a person with whom we have a loving and trusting relationship gives a gift, it is thoughtfully and freely given, without strings attached or a demand of service in return. The giver knows your heart as well as your circumstances.

Today's key verse was captured by John when Jesus spoke during His time on earth. These words came straight from the mouth of our Savior as a truth to cling to. Jesus knew we would never find peace from the things of this world.

Upon His Ascension, He granted us access to peace so we wouldn't have to seek it elsewhere or live in restlessness with circumstances out of our control.

Growing up, I learned to process information logically and analytically while navigating my emotions; it's not a great way to go through life!

It was a relief to learn that I could have peace without manipulating my circumstances or by containing my feelings to get to a place of rest. All I needed to do was let go of my perceived control and rest in knowing that God was taking care of everything causing me to feel restless.

I like to call this action an intentional surrender. Mindfully let go of the things that cause restlessness and accept God's gift of peace. This gift is given to us by the One who created us, knows us, knows our circumstances, and, bonus, is in control of all things and works all things together for good according to His will for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Take a moment today to breathe as you surrender everything causing restlessness. Breathe in the gift of peace and breathe out your worldly worries.
