Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Marge Webb.
Our scripture for today is found in Isaiah 26:3 (GNT), "You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and their trust in You."
As summer winds down and the kids and grandkids get ready to return to school, I hope you enjoyed your summer vacation. You know that one week a year when you take a nice break from all your busyness and relax.
As I reminisce, I do not remember those week-long vacations necessarily being restful and relaxing. I recall being up until midnight washing and packing clothes, cleaning out the fridge so there would be no moldy food when we returned, and then getting up in the middle of the night to catch a 6 a.m. flight to wherever.
As the verse above says, God gives us peace as we trust him. But when our lives are so busy that our vacation is another item on the to-do list, we may need to reevaluate our priorities.
May I offer two easy tips to slow down a bit? First, when it is time to run to the impending meeting at work or drive kids to the next event, take a deep breath. Second, during the day, stop briefly, inhale deeply, and exhale. Take in the sweet presence of the living God.
Also, remember to start your day praying for strength. Like Ephesians 6 says, put on your armor to fight the busyness we call life. Imagine carrying your shield of faith to protect you from the enemy’s fiery darts. Put on the belt of truth. Be honest with yourself, others, and God. Place shoes of peace on your feet. We do not live in a time that promotes peaceful living. So, in your busyness, walk in the peace of God, and He will guide your footsteps.
While my vacations were busy, I had some great trips with the three most important people in my life. As the sun sets on your summer, take time to pray and ask God to help you manage your stress and enjoy vacation time.
