Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Andi Benson.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV).
Do you know someone who embodies peace and comfort? For me, it’s my mom. Whenever I face challenges or heartbreak, her wisdom and gentle guidance show God’s work in my life, instantly bringing peace to my soul. Her presence is a living testament to the peace that surpasses all understanding and can only come from a deep and unwavering faith in the Almighty God.
When my husband passed away, I had two young sons who were riddled with grief and seeking answers. Unsure how to explain it to them myself, my mother calmly spoke to my youngest son about God’s beautiful angels coming to take their father to heaven to be healed and watch over us. This simple conversation brought immediate peace to his heart. With his childlike faith, he trusted God with all his questions and sadness. His unwavering acceptance of this explanation and the comfort it brought him also changed my perspective. Although we all were enduring deep grief and sorrow, we were able to move forward, trusting God and letting Him fill us with His love and comfort each step of the way.
In chapter four of Philippians, Paul discusses finding peace that transcends understanding in all situations. Achieving complete peace requires shifting our perspective from a worldly one, which doesn’t make sense, to an eternal one, which transcends what we can understand. When found, it is a beautiful relationship that exemplifies pure love and complete trust.
When life brings overwhelming challenges, we have a God who listens to our struggles and provides comfort through His word and His people. Living with this kind of faith is not always easy or automatic, but we can seek and find God’s peace through prayer and petition.
Are you facing areas that lack God’s peace? Pray today and ask the Lord to change your perspective to align with His.
