Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion is written by Angela Vandagriff.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13 CSB).

What's the purpose of life? That was the question my eight-year-old granddaughter asked me not too long ago.

My family had been going through so many brutal storms. I knew the stress was reaching my grandchildren, but I never expected this sweet, innocent child to be so perplexed by her life purpose. She saw life as unfair circumstances that just kept causing her little heart to break. I could relate.

As a child, I remember asking myself those same questions. I didn't have anyone I felt I could ask. Feeling isolated, scared, and broken, the only voice I heard was the Devil. Whenever I asked God to help me, I only heard this voice telling me I wasn't good enough. It told me these bad things wouldn't keep happening if I were a better person.

I was glad I was there for my granddaughter. I could speak Truth over her. As I began to tell her how God chose to create her for His glory, her little drooped head started to raise. “God created you with a purpose”, I said. “The Devil will try to make life so hard for you that you begin to doubt if God loves you, but don't you believe him!”

I used today's reference verse to continue to share with her the power of the Holy Spirit within us. No matter how hard life is, our peace, joy, and hope can only come from knowing Jesus, not from things of this world. The Holy Spirit within us empowers all who know Jesus to be full of His peace and joy. Her frown was now a smile.

Let me speak truth over you. You are uniquely created for God's glory. He loves you! Live in the peace and joy that only comes from knowing Jesus as your Savior.
