Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Nov 5, 2025    Jessica Gerth

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Jessica Gerth.

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:28 ESV).

I was just a little girl—barefoot in the grass, holding a few paintbrush flowers. As I marveled at the delicate petals and felt the cool earth beneath my feet, I experienced something profound: the quiet, overwhelming presence of God in creation. That simple moment marked my first true encounter with worship.

For a long time, I thought worship was confined to a church service—a few slower songs nestled between upbeat praise anthems. But worship isn’t about rituals, locations, or tradition. It’s a posture of the heart, a deep recognition that we belong to a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Hebrews 12:28 reminds us to be grateful for this unshakable kingdom and to respond with worship that is “acceptable” to God—rooted in reverence and awe. This means worship isn’t about perfect melodies or polished performances. It’s about surrendering ourselves fully, knowing that God’s presence fills the heart of the worshiper, not just the walls of a sanctuary.

Today, worship may come through a song that stirs my soul, but it also flows from quiet moments—standing in awe of creation, whispering thanks to the Lord while folding laundry, or simply resting in His unchanging love, with the Bible open and coffee in hand. When we worship in spirit and truth, our hearts become a dwelling place for God’s presence.

May we learn to worship with grateful hearts, embracing the unshakable kingdom we have received. Let reverence and awe shape every moment, as we offer God not just our songs, but our whole lives.
