Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Jessica Gerth.
Our scripture reading is from Revelation 21:4 (NLT), “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever”.
I heard his little giggle as I entered the room. His tiny feet stuck out from under the curtains, yet he was sure I didn’t know where he was hiding. It seemed my sweet boy would never tire of playing hide-and-seek, but he wouldn’t stay hidden long without giving himself away. His favorite part was being found!
I keep a lot to myself. I’ve been disappointed enough times that it seemed safer to put up walls rather than expose myself to more hurt. But keeping my pain hidden didn’t mean it was gone. And pretending to be well-put together didn’t mean I was. Not even close.
I stole a chapter from the Prodigal Son and sought love and acceptance from people and things that couldn’t satisfy my needs. I mistook being let down by the choices of others for God being distant, and I ran from Him a little bit.
Instead of finding the happiness I was chasing, I was lonely, empty, and lost. It was in those darkest days I realized how badly I needed saving. Even at my lowest, God wiped away my tears and led me back home. The focus verse above became a powerful truth to hold onto during some difficult seasons.
One day, God will provide complete and perfect healing to our brokenness. He knows our every thought, yet His love for us remains unchanging. He will leave the ninety-nine to rescue even me, and there is unmatched comfort in His presence.
We cannot heal our wounds if we spend our lives hiding them. I understand a little more now why my boy so enjoyed being “found.”
You don’t have to pretend with God. In prayer, share your authentic feelings with Him and allow His loving presence to comfort you.
