Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Sep 3, 2025    Jessica Gerth

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our

hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Jessica Gerth.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that

one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:25-26 ESV).

I sat in the middle of the floor, hit replay, and listened once again to the song God used

to remind my heart that He hasn’t forgotten me. Even in the silence and the unknowns,

I’m being held together by the One that sees the full picture.

I’m no stranger to waiting seasons, and the enemy loves to attack when I’m in darkness.

Uncertainty brings me face-to-face with my impatience, my fears, my tendency to blame

God for the outcomes I don’t understand, and the waiting I didn’t ask for. It’s easy to be

convinced that God’s silence means He’s distant.

The book of Lamentations is pretty dark and dramatic. But I love that in the middle of

the sorrow, is this beautiful promise - “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him”.

Still, I really struggled with the task of writing about waiting because waiting is a weakness of mine. It’s haunting and heavy, and when God leaves me in the dark too long, I’m tempted to chase what doesn’t last and I rush to fix things on my own.

Before I began writing, I prayed for the Lord to quiet my restless mind. The music’s volume was turned down so low, I almost missed it. The very song that God gave me months ago - when disappointment and uncertainty had me spiraling - began playing on the radio.

He hears every prayer, and His comfort is always there. Waiting seasons aren’t proof of God’s absence. They’re an invitation to lean in and experience His comfort. I invite you today to lean into your season of waiting.

Waiting is one of God’s favorite ways to get our attention. He isn’t rushing us. He is refining us. And even if we aren’t spared the ache of waiting – we are never abandoned in it.
