Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Oct 1, 2025    Jessica Gerth

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Jessica Gerth.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises…” (2 Peter 1:3-4 NIV).

After inviting Jesus into her heart, she believed temptation and sin would disappear. She imagined a life of perfect peace - her own happily ever after.

If only it were that simple…

I’ve been a “church girl” all my life, wired to do good and live the “right way”. But no matter how hard I tried, I still stumbled. Deep down, I longed to be accepted and loved. I let the enemy’s lies distort my worth, flood me with shame, and offer counterfeit solutions to my needs.

Temptation rarely comes at convenient moments. The enemy uses our desires as open doors to lead us to sin. Even Peter, one of Jesus’ closest friends, wasn’t immune. He loved Jesus enough to leave everything and follow Him—yet he gave in when fear and pressure rose.

Like Peter, we all wrestle with temptation and fall short. We want to live Spirit-led lives, but our ability doesn’t match our desires. Sometimes we think accepting Jesus should eliminate the struggle. But even those who walked beside Him got it wrong.

This scripture convicted me. I trust God with my eternity, yet I struggle to trust Him with my “today”. The same grace that secures my future empowers my present.

God’s promises aren’t just future hope; they’re present help. He always provides a way out when temptation comes.

I’ve been given “everything [I] need to live a godly life”. When I rely on the Spirit’s strength instead of my own, I can resist the enemy and walk in victory.

When the enemy whispers, remember you’re not powerless. You’re not alone. You’ve already been equipped to stand strong. Let grace be more than a future promise - let it be your present strength.
