Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Karen Wardle.
“I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:7 ESV).
Have you felt guilt over sins of the past? I have. In some respects, I still do sometimes because I am so embarrassed and ashamed that I deviated from God’s perfect path. Maybe you’ve been there too—remembering mistakes, wondering if you’ll ever truly be free from the weight of your past.
But sister, be reassured: Heaven takes great joy in your repentance! Luke 15:7 tells us that when we turn from our sins, the very courts of Heaven erupt in celebration. Imagine that for a moment—angels rejoicing, a divine chorus of praise, all because you have turned back to God.
It’s easy to dwell on past failures, but that’s not where God wants you to stay. Your sins have been washed clean by Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross, and in God’s eyes, you are sin-free. When He looks at you, He sees the righteousness of Christ, not the mistakes of your past.
So, be joyous because God in Heaven takes great joy in you! Let go of guilt that tries to cling to your heart, and instead, embrace the freedom and exhilaration that comes from being fully forgiven. If Heaven is celebrating your redemption, shouldn’t you as well? Joy isn’t found in a perfect past but in a redeemed present and in knowing that you are loved, cherished, and welcomed by God, no matter where you’ve been. The enemy wants to keep you in shame, but Jesus calls you into joy.
Today, choose joy. Rejoice in the truth that you are a daughter of the King, washed clean and made new. And the next time the past tries to whisper shame into your heart, remember: Heaven is already singing over you.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace. Please help me to release guilt and embrace the joy of my salvation. Let me live in the freedom of Your forgiveness, knowing You take great joy in me. Amen.
