Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Kate Dreston.
And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die” (2 Samuel 11:15 NKJV).
David was described as a man after God’s own heart. During his lifetime, he obeyed God and did his best to keep His commandments.
However, David was only a man living in a fallen world. He wasn’t perfect like Jesus, and he sinned as we all do.
When David saw a beautiful woman bathing, he had a choice. Instead of turning away from the temptation, he pursued Bathsheba and eventually brought her to his palace. Even though David knew she was married and he was sinning, he slept with her anyway, and she became pregnant.
David had to deal with the consequences of his sin. As 2 Samuel 11:15 says, he devised a scheme to hide that it was his baby. When his plan didn’t work, he gave the order to eliminate her husband from the situation by sending him to the front lines of battle. He thought he could let the enemy kill Uriah, and David could keep his sin hidden.
As is common to sin, one lie must be covered by another. More people get involved as the situation grows more complicated. One sin most often leads to more sin. It can become a vicious and unending circle that causes pain to everyone involved.
We are not immune to the struggle with sin in our lives. We are susceptible to falling into the enemy’s trap when we let our minds ruminate on the sin that entices us. We must recognize it for what it is and run from it.
If you are struggling with the desire to sin, take the necessary steps to remove yourself from the situation, which would make it easy to fall into its trap. Ask God to give you the strength to resist your temptation. If you fail, ask God for forgiveness and the strength to make things right.
