Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Susan Hales encourages us to have peace about our future in Christ.

“Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’ So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5–6 NLT).

My mom's stroke and subsequent nursing home placement triggered an intense period of anxiety for me.

I obsessed over the prospect of being alone when I grew too old to care for myself. I worried about my ability to afford thousands of dollars a month for a nursing home.

God orchestrated a chance meeting with a friend of a friend who shared her story. She described how the Lord told her when to move out of her large home into an assisted living apartment and how He provided precisely what she required to make the move and navigate the changes in her life.

Hearing her story filled me with an amazing sense of peace. Since God met her needs, He'll surely meet mine as well.

Our key scripture offers two promises. First, we do not need to worry about what we have, because God will never fail or abandon us. We are His children and He promises to provide for us.

Also, we are promised a helper to be with us always, so there is no need to be afraid. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, our helper is the Holy Spirit—our counselor, advocate, and guide.

We needn't fret over others' actions and are not alone in facing challenges. We experience peace because we know the Holy Spirit is with us and guiding our way.

Do I always have peace about the future? No, I still worry about it sometimes. But I find comfort and encouragement in God's Word, knowing He'll never fail or abandon me.

Think about challenging situations in your life. Do you trust in God's presence and provision for you?
