Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
October 28, 2025
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional is written by Andi Benson.
“So that, just as sin reigned in death so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 5:21 NIV).
Because we are humans living in a broken world sin can feel relentless. We encounter temptation daily in subtle whispers from the enemy to veer off the path that God has set before us. The apostle Paul understood this struggle intimately. In the words of our focus scripture, Paul acknowledges the deep reality of sin’s power, yet he anchors our hope not in our own strength, but in the gift of God’s grace.
Often, when we stumble, shame threatens to drown us. We wonder if we’ll ever be free from the cycle of guilt and repentance. I struggled in this same cycle with a sin that had worked its way into my life and began to have a stronghold on me. I would repent for my behavior but then focus on my failure that I couldn’t beat this sin on my own. After months of struggling and much prayer, the Lord revealed to me that the only way to be free of this burden was to surrender it to Him. His grace was the only thing that was sufficient to set me free.
In Romans 5:21 Paul tells us to shift our focus from the dominion of sin to the sovereignty of grace. Sin may have once ruled in our life but through the righteousness of Christ, grace sits as the king of our hearts. This does not mean the struggle disappears, but it does mean sin no longer defines us. Every act of repentance is evidence of God’s Spirit working within us. When we confess our failures, we do so not as defeated captives, but as beloved children who are victorious in Christ.
Is there sin in your life holding you captive, causing defeat and shame? Let the knowledge of grace reign to transform your struggle into hope. Your weakness is not the end of your story; it is the place where Christ’s righteousness shines brightest.
