Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today, Sharee Gaiser shares about the sweetness of gentle words.

"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." (Proverbs 16:24 NIV)

I love honey! It's often used for flavor and soothing sore throats and wounds. There's something deeply symbolic about how such a small, simple thing can offer comfort and restoration, much like kind words or gentle acts. Honey reminds me that even the smallest gestures can hold great power to heal, encourage, and bring joy.

Today's focus verse reminds us that, like honey, our words can comfort the soul and heal those who hear them. While words can also hurt and discourage, gentle, gracious words can lift others and bring life.

Recently, my husband and I watched a home video of our second child's birth. Our daughter rushed to greet her baby brother, full of excitement. My first word to her was, "Gentle." Her response was to slow down, stroke her brother’s cheek and kiss him tenderly. That moment reminded me of the joy that can be found in gentleness. Despite the usual sibling rough-and-tumble, 27 years later, I still see that same gentle care between them. As a mother, witnessing this gentle expression of love is a true joy.

It's essential to recognise that being gentle with one another is not always easy. Frustration can arise, and situations incite struggle. But in these moments, the power of gentle, gracious words can truly make a difference.

Another way to foster gentleness is to be mindful of our tone and body language during conversations. Speaking softly, maintaining eye contact, and using open gestures can convey gentleness, even in difficult discussions. Furthermore, during conflicts, we can empower ourselves to respond rather than react; taking a moment to breathe and choose our words carefully can transform an aggressive exchange into a constructive dialogue.

Sweet, gentle, and gracious words encourage and lift others' spirits. Let's be inspired by this beauty and strive to use our words to heal and uplift, speaking with kindness and care. I encourage you to take a moment today to reflect on your recent interactions and consider how you can infuse more gentleness and kindness into your communication.
