Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Kate Dreston.
“My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26 NKJV).
Happiness is a human emotion that fluctuates according to the circumstances in our lives. We want to be cheerful, but some days are harder than others.
I’ve had plenty of days where I didn’t feel like smiling. Feeling happy when your body is tired and in pain is hard. Over the course of five years, I saw more than thirty doctors searching for the reason why I didn’t feel well most of the time. No one had answers.
I was forced to quit my job because I struggled physically at work. Over time, I started to lose hope that I would ever find a diagnosis or a cure. My circumstances were bleak, which made it challenging to keep a positive attitude. I had so many questions for God.
Even though I wasn’t experiencing happiness, I never lost my joy. The joy of the Lord is found in the gratefulness of knowing my sins are forgiven and that I will spend an eternity in a perfect heaven. The Bible promises this place will not have pain or sickness.
Today’s verse from the Psalms reminds me that regardless of how badly my body fails me, God is the true strength of my heart. My circumstances can’t steal my joy because joy is found in my salvation. My inner strength comes from the Lord despite the failings of my flesh.
The more I trust in God and persevere through trials, the more content I can be in the midst of pain.
Are you letting something in your life steal your joy? Maybe it’s losing a job, a loved one, or a relationship. Remember, when life’s hardships steal your happiness, look deeper into your heart. God’s gifts of grace and salvation are true sources of joy. Lean on God’s presence in your life. Peace and contentment will follow.
