Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Kristy Fitzgerald encourages us to develop a lifestyle of joy.
“And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore, I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD” Psalm 27:6 (NKJV).
I have loved music since I was a small child; I don’t remember a time I didn’t sing. I sang in school, in church, on stage, and television. Music was not only my passion, but it was also a source of joy for me.
A couple of years ago, I began experiencing difficulty singing and playing the piano in public. What had once brought me the greatest joy was now a source of pain and discomfort. I grieved over the loss of what I believed had been a gift from God. Processing the pain was not easy.
A few weeks ago, I sat at the piano and began to play and sing an old gospel song that references the woman who poured oil on Jesus' head and washed his feet with her tears. As my weak voice began to sing of her sacrifice, I could sense something stirring within me. I realized that God wasn’t waiting for me to feel joy. He wanted me to know joy. Regardless of how difficult it was, He wanted me to sing to Him and to hear my voice. He wanted my sacrifice of joy.
True joy is not a feeling; it’s a lifestyle that we choose. It’s the confidence that we have that God is working all things together for our good. Often, we find ourselves waiting for God to pour joy into our lives when He’s simply asking us to walk in the joy He’s already provided.
Today, you may be where I have been for the last few years. You may look at your life, and the last thing you feel is joy. I encourage you today to remember the times God has been there for you. The prayers He has answered. As you do, I promise you will feel His joy invading your life once again.
