Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion is written by Andi Benson.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10 NIV).

In John 10:10, Jesus warns, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” This verse reminds us that Satan's mission is to rob us of the peace and joy Christ offers, replacing it with worry and sadness. Over time, we can become so consumed with struggles and fears that we forget the goodness God has given us.

I experienced this firsthand during one of the happiest times in my life. After years of grieving as a widow, God brought healing to my heart through a new partner and a second chance at marriage. He sent this man to show unconditional love to me and my boys and to care for us.

Soon after our marriage, Satan began to attack. He sowed doubt and lies about every part of who I was and had been, replacing my peace with anxiety and discontentment. For over a year, he subtly picked away at my faith, confidence, and purpose until my foundation was shaken. His goal was clear: to steal my joy, destroy my faith, and undo the healing God had brought to my life. Although I felt lost and overwhelmed, I realized I was in a spiritual battle and began praying and filling my heart with God's truth.

Graciously, God didn’t leave me to fight this battle alone. He fervently pursued my heart, reminding me that my joy is rooted in Jesus. He brought worship to my lips so I would rejoice in Him through my circumstances. This returned joy became my strength, a deep, abiding joy that comes from knowing Christ and living in His love.

What battles are you facing today? Remember, Jesus came to give us abundant life—joy no enemy can take away. True joy can be found if we focus on God’s Word, resist Satan’s lies, and fix our eyes on Jesus.
