Freely Speaking Audio Devotion

Oct 7, 2025    Liz'a Biswell

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Liz’a Biswell.

“And I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't” (Romans 7:18 NLT).

When I was a young Christian, I couldn’t understand how women so close to God still struggled with sin. I asked them boldly, but I still couldn’t grasp it.

As I studied God's Word, I began to understand Romans 7:18, “I want to do what is right, but I can't.” That was a tough pill to swallow. Accepting that there is nothing good in me was hard. Accepting this truth didn’t just humble me; it drew me closer to God.

John 17:3 says that eternal life comes from knowing God and His Son. Our loving Father understands our struggles and offers a path for all.

If you are struggling with sin, don’t beat yourself up. Struggle does not mean defeat; it means you're fighting. That fight is evidence of faith.

Read the Bible and see for yourself; there is only one perfect person. People in the Bible are not divine but sinful, just like you and me. From the beginning, sin has been working hard to pull us away from our creator. You are not alone and were never meant to face this challenge alone.

When sin challenges me, I focus on God and choose Him. Here are some truths I cling to when I need to refocus my heart:

- Ask God to help. You can't do it alone, so stay close to Him by reading your Bible and studying His word.

-Trust God. He doesn’t change. His promises are true, and His timing is perfect.

-Rely on God’s strength. We can’t save ourselves. We need God’s divine assistance to obey and overcome sin.

-Look to Jesus. He is our example. People will fail, but we can trust Jesus.

Never forget the sin you’ve struggled with, so that you will have compassion for those who still struggle. And remember, “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ” (Romans 8:1).
