Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotion was written by Liz’a Biswell.

“But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” (Mark 4:38-40 ESV).

At a recent conference, the speaker asked a question that struck me deeply: “Why do we do everything we can before we invite the Peacemaker into the storm with us?”

I have struggled to find peace in my life.

The storms have been relentless—too many to count. Right now, I find myself in the middle of several. Life is difficult, and more than I would like to admit, I’ve tried to weather these on my own, draining my strength before ever asking for help.

Yet, in these moments, I need to remember that Jesus is already with me. He isn’t distant or unaware—He’s simply waiting. Waiting for me to stop lying and pretending I’m fine, waiting for me to surrender my self-reliance, and waiting for me to invite Him into my struggle.

In Mark 4:38-40, the disciples ask Him, “Do you not care?” His response is both gentle and firm: “Peace! Be still!... Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” This is the constant reminder I need that peace is found in faith, not in my own strength.

Ladies, it’s time to awaken peace in our lives. When we see storms brewing around us, let’s not wait until we’re sinking to call out for Him. Let’s trust God’s will is good, even when life is heavy. The heavier we are, the quicker we sink.

Go to Jesus. He is in the boat, waiting for us to call on Him.
