Freely Speaking Audio Devotion
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion is written by Angela Vandagriff.
The verse for today is, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it” (Proverbs 3:27 KJV).
Imagine a situation where you can speak a kind word or offer a kind gesture that could change the course of someone's day, would you do it? How we interact with others says a lot about our relationship with Christ. Gentleness is becoming an extinct virtue.
The Biblical definition of gentleness, as defined by the Bible Study Tools, encompasses a spirit of humility, kindness, and patience. This meaning is often associated with the Greek word “prautes" which signifies controlled strength. Gentleness is not weakness; rather, it reflects a humble attitude towards God and a polite behavior towards others. It embodies true strength.
I am guilty of letting the chaos of life be the blinders that keep me from seeing where I need to exercise gentleness and have a spirit of humility. In my stress-filled day, I rush about, only focused on myself. I haven't been leaving time for humble service unto the Lord. I have missed opportunities to do good, be kind, and speak with gentleness.
Today's reference verse reminds us not to withhold good from someone in need when you have the power to do it. I've often failed at doing good, thinking I needed to offer monetary help. The smallest gesture could impact a person's day: a smile, a kind word, or a listening ear. God requires different, gentle, and kind acts from everyone; whatever lies within the power of your hand to do, that is what God is calling you to do.
I encourage you to allow God to remove the blinders from your eyes and put on spiritual glasses of gentleness and kindness. Seek out, with humility, the souls that need to feel God's gentle touch in their lives. Do not withhold good from those who are in need!
